Last week we were looking at greyboxing the Ravine area – working off pictures I made in the past when visiting Austria and placeholder Quixel Megascan assets.
This week, we are doing a hard 180 and gathering some more reference images and videos in real life. Coincidentally, this week just happens to overlap with a trip back home โ what a happy little accident ๐.
Ravine and Gem Hunting Reference – Habachtal, Austria
The Habachtal in the Hohen Tauern National Park is a lovely place to gather some additional references for an alpine and ravine landscape, as well as being a famous place for gemstone hunting (emeralds specifically, eek!).
While the ravine in my game will be mostly modeled after the Glasenbachklamm, it does not hurt at all to get some extra inspiration.
And it hurts even less to also get a wonderful autumn hike out of it ;).
Here is some reference footage I took:
and some extra pics to go along with it.

Since it is quite hard to edit videos and write posts when on the move, I will leave it at that for this week.
Next week we’ll take a closer look at some building interior and exterior references from the Open Air Museum in Salzburg and some other bits and bobs before getting back to our regular GameDev programming.
In exchange for a short post this week, here is a cute sheep. ๐

Have a lovely week and see ya! ๐๐
