A bit later update this week than usual, but you know sometimes you just need to enjoy your Easter break with friends and family and fall into a chocolate coma. ππ£
This week I added something actually useful, a codex for the game that will track any people you have encountered, Austrian terms you have learned, and much, much more info about the game world in general.
It’s also probably the first time I made a UI I don’t hate π.
Specifically for the People Codex part, I wanted to go for a scrapbook style for a couple of reasons, e.g., I like the style and I suck at it in real life. So might as well make it happen in-game π.
So currently when you press Tab in the game the Codex will pop up in the form of a book.

With each tab in the book you can navigate to different sub-menus, e.g. Villagers and Terms here.
Villager Codex
Let’s have a closer look at the Villagers Codex.
On the first page, which is an Overview, you can see a Polaroid picture for each Villager. If you have met them, it will be filled with their picture; otherwise, it will show a question mark, letting you know that there is still someone out there that you have yet to meet.
The locks currently represent villagers I haven’t implemented yet.
Later on, I am thinking on repurposing this for NPCs in other areas that aren’t unlocked yet but will be unlocked in the course of the game.
Then clicking on a Polaroid when you have met that character will open their page that’s customized for each Villager.
Here are 2 examples I have mocked up so far.
As you get to know each character more, you unlock more information about what and whom they like or dislike, and other information, like when their birthdays are (for those extra friendship points when giving them a birthday present π).
Austrian Terms
Of course, we also track what Austrian terms and idioms you have encountered in the game so you can refer back to them at any time.
Currently, I show them in a quite simple list, but I think I will come up with a cuter way of displaying them in the long run.

Other things I want to track are what items you have collected and created, which fish you have caught, what minerals you have mined, and so on.
Pretty standard for a game codex, but I just love being able to tick off and collect all the things π
So that’s coming soon.
See you again soon for more updates ππ
